Washington County law enforcement activity began Monday at 12:11 AM when deputies discovered a concealed handgun during a traffic stop at Highway 133 and County Road P26 after detecting marijuana odor. Later that morning, deputies assisted a U.S. Marshal task force with warrant service in Herman at 7:51 AM.

The day’s arrests began at 2:11 PM when Carlos Gutierez-Pol (DOB 1/10/03) was taken into custody at the sheriff’s office at 444 S. 16th Street after arriving to pay a traffic fine and being found to have an active Washington County warrant. At 4:31 PM, deputies arrested Wyatt Sumey (DOB 4/9/88) for DUI during a traffic stop at Highway 133 and CR 35.

The day concluded with a significant incident in Fort Calhoun at 10:19 PM, when deputies witnessed a driver attempt to open an unoccupied vehicle’s door before conducting a traffic stop. When stopped, Barry Fries (DOB 1/21/61) refused to identify himself or roll down his window, leading to a vehicle breach and extraction. Fries was charged with failure to identify, obstruction, resisting, driving under suspension, no registration, and no plates.

Deputies maintained regular business checks, with exactly 14 properties checked in Arlington and 18 in Fort Calhoun during early Monday morning hours. On Tuesday, a resident reported observing 4-5 drones near Highway 133 and County Road 32 at 11:27 AM, noting similarities to recent New Jersey incidents.
